Nicolas and Dad went to see Trudy the Titan at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden. Trudy is an amorphophallus titanium plant from Indonesia. Since the species was first identified by Westerners in 1878 there have been 85 recorded bloomings. During the first 12 hours the plant smells like a highly rotten dead body. The bloom lasts about 2-3 days. Trudy bloomed on a Wed and we saw it on Saturday morning. We were fortunate it was still open, but we missed the smell. |
